Family Matters

Although at times I may feel that family can be an added stress, I also know that they can be great supporters and motivators.  I took my whole family for dinner on the craziest night in Winnipeg, where every single restaurant had at least an hour and half of wait time, yes on Grey Cup day. It was for my mother’s 48th birthday.

It was great to see and spend some time with my cousins, aunts and uncle, as it has been a while since we all get together.

Brown Doesn’t Mean Black

Although we hear the ‘N’ word being used in many urban shows, movies or music, there still seems be a thin line between who can use it and who can’t.  Yes we see it amongst the African American community use it towards each other and although I am classified in the minority cast (Asian), I learned that it wasn’t acceptable of me to use this word. My boi who I’ve known for almost 5 years is African American.  The other day while we were joking around, I happen to drop the ‘N’ word not thinking much of it, because I thought we were cool like that. He told me to never say it and I can tell that I offended him.

Although he did not get angry or upset at me very long, I can tell that this was wrong of me to say. I learned that night, that even though I am minority and we are tight, it wasn’t cool of me to use it.  We need to understand the history of this word and what it means to the African American community. I guess the point of this post is to share this learning experience, brown doesn’t mean black.

To my boi… I know I didn’t say sorry that night, so I apologize now. Please know that I didn’t mean it like that.

What Would You Do If…

You were in New York City?

I have been here for a few days now for business, and although I have limited time to venture I realized that I’ve done nothing.  Therefore I will ask the question to my audience to generate some ideas.

What you would do if you were in New York City?

Back in the Big Apple

It’s that time of the year again where I do my annual business visit to the great city of New York.  Ad:tech NYC 2006 is being held at the Hilton Hotel from November 6 – 8.

I’m on a schedule this week and have limited time to do any personal rounds, which is ok as this is my third year here. However I do want o skate at the Rockefeller Center where my boi is going to take me.

I’ll post my recent experience of Ad:tech and NYC soon.
