Palm Treo 700wx vs. 700p. Which one to get?
When my Blackberry 7750 got classified as vintage mobile technology, I began my search for a new mobile device that will meet my personal and business needs, a device that may be considered top of the line for the next two years.
I decided to check out the Palm devices. Thankfully TELUS, my service provider carries these devices. They have the Palm 700p and the Palm 700wx. What’s the difference you ask? That’s what I wanted to know too! The 700p runs using the Palm OS, an upgrade to the ever popular 650 model. The 700wx runs using Windows Mobile OS.
Before I begin my review I’d like to note that I will not get into the details of the device as you can find the full specs on the Palm website. I also want to make a note that I personally tried both versions because of the 30 day exchange policy with TELUS.
I started off with the Windows version and I immediately fell in love with it. At first I was a little worried about the transition from a Blackberry to a Palm. But the windows version really made it easy to use, due to the windows interface which most of us are familiar with.
Both models come with EvDO technology which makes browsing the net fast, similar to that of DSL or High Speed, up to 600 kpbs. Both can be use as a modem for your laptop. The email application on the 700wx version is perfect if you are using MS Outlook as your main email program. Synching your contacts, calendars, and task are easy as 123 using the active sync software. Unfortunately I use Lotus Notes, so if you are using another email program to hold all your information; you may be required to purchase third party software to sync your data.
The one feature I really like about the 700wx is the pocket msn, which enables you to directly connect to your hotmail or msn messenger. It also comes with pocket windows media player as your media device. I find this better than the pTunes which comes with the Palm 700p. Another feature that the 700wx version has that out does the 700p is the voice command, having a voice read out my appointments gives me the ability to never miss an appointment or a meeting.
Like most products there are cons, the 700wx only has a 240 x 240 screen size and lower resolution vs. the 700p, which has 320 x 320 and higher resolution. I also find that the chatter for the 700p amazing, it keeps records of all your text messaging making it seem like a chat session.
After trying out both devices, I ended up with the 700wx version, despite needing to purchase third party software to sync my data I find this version to look better, the today screen can be personalized to your own liking. There are also more features than the 700p, like games and IE. Don’t get me wrong there are those who actually prefer the 700p, but many of those users are 650 Palm users so they are naturally comfortable with the Palm OS version.
So there you have it. After all the trouble of trying both devices and finally making a decision on which one to use, I was pretty disappointed when I read the press release of the preview on the iPhone. Damn you technology, why do you move so fast?
Jennifer Hudson Wins Golden Globe
We all knew she can sing, but now she can act too! Former American Idol contestant wins a Golden Globe for best supporting actress in her debut role as Effie White in Bill Condon’s critically acclaimed movie Dreamgirls.
“I had always dreamed but I never ever dreamed this big,” she said during her acceptance speech.
Although she had limited acting experience, it was no surprised that she won this award. Jennifer Hudson’s performance of the show stopping song ‘And I’m telling you, I’m not going’ made famous by Jennifer Holiday, alone would have sealed the win. She was the favorite to win this award and will also likely be a favorite during the Oscars.
The former American Idol contestant was dismissed early in one of the best seasons of AI, which included many talents like Latoya London and winner Fantasia Barrino. Although she was booted off a disappointing 7th place finish, she didn’t fall in the trend of ‘Going no where after AI’, like many other contestants do. What ever happen to that Justin Guarini guy?
With limited acting experience, winning a Golden Globe was a boost of confidence to branch out and extend her talent to the world. Not only will she release her first album this year with Arista Records, but she will also continue acting.
“Last year at this time, I wasn’t sure if I was an actress, but now this just gives me the confidence to want to carry on and to continue acting, and I did find a new love in acting. I want to continue acting and singing as well. I want to have that album in the music industry and separate the two.” – Jennifer said during her press conference after the win.
“What has kept me going is just my desire to want to do what I love to do and that is to sing and now to act.” She said when asked what has kept her going despite the disappointing finish on American Idol.
Jennifer Hudson is clearly a rising star. Her singing career no doubt will be a success, and as far as her acting career goes, it is just the beginning and so far it is looking pretty good.
I’m Back!
It’s been a minute since I posted anything. I know a few of my audience have probably found a new home, but for those dedicated and very loyal fans (Thanks Mom)… j/k… I want to thank you for your patience and continuous support.
To answer the big question that I’m sure most want to know. Where was I? I can tell you that I have not been nor was I ever in Hawaii… Damn… I wish I was though, that would have been sweet.
To be honest, I have just been really busy. I work full time and I’m part time student, part time friend, part time family, and part time doing some curricular activities (skating and hip-hop dance <– will talk more about in future post.) With that said, I still have a vision and dream. I know there are those who are probably rolling their eyes and who doubt me because I seem to show this trend of starting something and not finishing it. That’s ok though, I’m use to having peeps doubt me. It doesn’t bother me as much as it did before. Anyway enough of that, I’m sure you guys are probably excited to hear some news of what’s to come this year on Peogles.
I’ve recruited an extra author who will contribute daily post. This blogging thing is basically a full time job and as mentioned my time is very thin, so keep an eye out for him, he will do an introduction soon. Also stay tuned for upcoming contest, promotions, and newsletters.
In the mean time, continue to visit my blog. I assure you all that you will not be disappointed this year.
