Asian Talent on The Rise

The time has come and finally the entertainment industry recognizes that ‘Asians’ are talented and have a place in the billion dollar industry that has been dominated by whites and blacks.
Jabbawockeez won the $100,000 grand prize and the title of America’s Best Dance Crew, beating out Status Quo and other talented crews all across America.
As an Asian, I feel so proud that the world got to see that we are a talented group of people. Typically, Asians are only seen on TV or Movies if the role requires you to do some type of martial arts move. Times are changing -
In the last couple of years, I’ve notice a shift and recognition by the entertainment industry in regards to how Asians are viewed. Last year, Melissa Reyes and Asia, competed in the CW reality show ‘The Search for the Doll’, where both girls receive great reviews and became the last two standing, Asia ultimately was crowned the winner. Melissa’s nationality is Filipino, while Asia was half Filipino and half black.
Earlier this year we also saw another Asian, Mariel make the finals in the ABC special Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann. Ramiele Malubay is also another Asian talent on the rise. She is currently in the final 9 of the hottest show in America, American Idol.
So as the year goes on, I am excited and anxious to see more Asians continue to make its mark in the entertainment industry, to ride the wave of recent success, and remove all stereo types that the media has poured on us. I have a dream, that one day an Asian music artist will win a Grammy.
Here is a video of Jabbawockeez performing on Regis and Kelly…

So Asians can dance or sing their way into Hollywood?
I’m actually looking for Asians to break into movies and television. Once they start winning Emmy’s and Oscar’s on the regular then we will be getting somewhere.
Anyone can do a two step.
