Fallen Hero, Captain America, 1941-2007

One of my favorite Marvel characters dies today… This is from the national post.

Captain America, the red-white-and-blue comic-book hero created to fight the Nazis and resurrected in the 1960s to battle Communists and terrorists, is dead. He was 66. His less-super alter ego, Steve Rogers, would have been 89.
The patriotic superhero, whose trademark shield was emblazoned with the Stars and Stripes, was gunned down by a sniper as he left a courthouse in the latest edition of his comic book, published by Marvel Entertainment Inc. (At press time, The Beguiling on Markham Street still had copies for sale).
Before he started swathing himself in his country’s colours, Captain America was scrawny New York teen Steve Rogers, who reached his “ultimate human potential” after volunteering to be injected with Super Soldier serum during the Second World War. While it didn’t give him superpowers in the traditional comic-book sense of the word, it did give him freakish strength, speed and smarts.
e is survived by his trusty sidekick Bucky — born James Buchanan Barnes — and mourned by his creator, 93-year old Joe Simon. “It’s a hell of time for him to go,” Simon, who with artist Jack Kirby dreamed up Captain America in 1941 as a foe for Adolf Hitler — told the New York Daily News. “We really need him now.”
Marvel has sold more than 10 million copies of Captain America comic books in 75 countries around the world.
Of course, comic-book heroes have been known to bounce back from such minor setbacks as death — Superman’s demise in 1993 being the most notable example — and Marvel Entertainment editor-in-chief Joe Quesada told the Associated Press yesterday that a Captain America comeback “wasn’t impossible.”
Regardless of whether he comes back to life in print, Captain America fans will get another chance to see their hero in action in a big-screen adaptation scheduled for release in 2009.
Look At All Those Beautiful Words
There are some words that just makes us weaker. A good way to strengthen oneself when faced with a loser word is to use said word in your vocabulary. A word is like a hammer someone once said. It is a tool, part of your work things. Using the word sure works. Take for example crack. Just switch it up buddy. Take the word crack for example. One might be turned off because they think of addiction. This hurts everyone and if you are not careful you might have weakness. There are ways to feed the mind in order to overcome a bad definition; look it up in the knowledge and you will see an inner strength and support. Crack can mean to break or snap, to make a sharp snapping sound, a fissure, a sharp change in pitch, to fail, a mental or physical breakdown, to move rapidly, to break into simpler molecules by means of heat, to crush into smaller pieces, to open in a slight extent, to strike with a sudden sharp sound, to open, to win acceptance, to discover a solution, to tell a joke, to impair or destroy, to reduce to simpler compounds by cracking, an impairment, an attempt to try, a witty or sarcastic remark, a moment, fun; and slang for drugs. One can use the word crack in a very positive way, as a way to compliment someone who has excelled in skill or achievement, like “You are a crack shot.” Or “You are a crack speller.” Now, you can take it and use it; the history you have with a word is like magic. A word is magic and I like magic. If there is a name and its bounced like a bullet, please write yourself a paragraph; it really means something.
The Magic of Thinking BIG
Think positive! How many times have you heard that during rough moments or challenges in life? And how many times do you try to think positive, then it is quickly followed by negative thoughts? What causes these thoughts?
I at times, had challenges with Positive vs. Negative and after reading The Magic of Thinking Big, by David J. Schwartz, it gave me a clear understanding of how the mind works. It also provided helpful tools to train your mind.
This book shows you the secrets to acquire a successful life, both personally and professionally by focusing on a simple method, your way of thinking. It may sound simple, but most would say that it is difficult to master especially during challenges. I agree that the way you think determines who you are and where you can go. You’re only as big as your mind thinks it is.
For those seeking something more in their life, I recommend you read this book. It will give you deep insights on acquiring a successful life by changing your way of thinking.
SCHOLASTIC: Helping Children Around The World Read, Learn and Play Video Games!
Do you remember when you were in grade school and every few months, you would get the Scholastic Catalogue. You would get so excited and convince your parents to buy the latest books by R.L Stine or Judy Blume.
I was fortunate to get a copy of the Back to School Catalogue from my 10 year old cousin. I felt like I was a kid again, filled with excitement as I browse through the pages, smiling and recognizing some of the authors and books I’ve read as a kid. Unfortunately that excitement didn’t last long, as I flip to the middle of the catalogue and was shock to find a complete spread called Interactive, where scholastic was soliciting video games!

What the hell was this crap? I said to myself. Scholastic slogan is “Helping Children around The World Read and Learn”, this completely goes against that. Although I may agree that some interactive games may be educational like ‘#1 Math Success’ or ‘Learn How to Speak French’. I don’t find anything educational about Pirates of the Caribbean for Gameboy Advance, MX vs. ATV Unleashed, or the Bratz Rock Angel PC game.
In today’s generations, kids have access to resources and information to get them through school. How do kids learn these days anyway, when you have Microsoft Word to do your spell check, Excel to calculate your answers, and the Internet to plagiarize a paper. I guess Scholastic recognizes that grade school kids, have become more technology driven with the iPods, internet, cell phones and video games, that they were forced to jump the bandwagon to ensure they keep their market share. After all they are a business first, before teachers.
