Confessions of a facebook Junkie!
Ok, Ok. I know my lack of entries during the last couple of months has been blamed to me being busy. Which is true, I have never been more swamped with work than I have been lately. I’m still pursing my education and also trying to have some type of social life. However with that said, I do have a confession to make. I’ve been addicted to a social network site, which I seem to have time for every day…
It’s not MySpace.com or Friendster.com, or hi5, or even the original social networks like AsianAvenue.com, BlackPalnet.com or Migente.com. It’s the fastest growing social network today. Yes, facebook. :S. I was never really into Social networks. Normally I would create profiles just to see what the big fuss was about and usually I would abandon them for a while. But this facebook thing is different from the rest. It’s much more personal with great security and privacy features.
You can choose who is able to view your profile and even control the details of what they can see. Live news feed as your home page is great. It gives you news on the latest actives of your friends, colleges and family.
However, as facebook continues to grow, so does its features. Recently they allowed various types of applications that you can add on your profile page. Applications such as horoscope, maps, Paint, music/movie play list and much more can be added on your page. I’m not a big fan of this because in time, facebook profiles will be similar to those of MySpace. It will be filled with so much crap that it hurts the eyes to even give it a page impression.
Overall I give facebook two thumbs up for now! It’s a great way to keep in touch with past classmates, colleagues and family members. It also has some great features such as Market Place where you can advertise, whether you are buying, selling, giving or looking.
*I am not a facebook junkie. Trust me I’m beginning to lose interest. ;-)…… Ok, alright. Not just yet.
MyBlogLog Free Stats: How Accurate Is It?
For those who are part of the MyBlogLog community, I’m sure you take advantage of their free stats. I have always been curious as to how accurate their stats are and what they actually mean.
If you are an expert when it comes to their stats, please break it down for me. What does “Readers†mean? Is it the number of unique visits? “Page Views” are exactly what it says, the number of views your site got. Right?
Anyway I ask because recently I hit a record breaking day. Never have I seen my “Readers” stats go over 200, and on this day it just went over 500. My ‘Page Views’ also hit a record high. So I wanted to ask all you MyBlogLog addicts. How accurate are their stats? Is it worth getting the MyBlogLog Pro version?

Britney, Paris, Lindsay: Who is the Most Popular of Them All?
Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Which of these personalities does the Internet community love more? Yes we see their faces on magazines, their behaviors caught on tape, and their names constantly mentioned on the radio. But which of these media grabbers does the online world love more?
I visited the Overture Keyword Tool to find out who was search more and what about them, that the online community loves. No surprise that we find the ‘head shaving, tattoo manic, umbrella hitting and rehab favorite Britney Spears’ in front of the pack. The name ‘Britney Spears’ was searched 3.6 Million times in the month of February. Paris and Lindsay was a far second and third with just a little over 1 Million searches.
It’s safe to assume that 50% of those searches were from Males who can’t afford to pay for real porn, as it is evident when terms like ‘uncensored, nude and pictures’ followed the keyword ‘Britney Spears’. The same can be said for the keywords ‘Paris Hilton’ and ‘Lindsay Lohan’.

Well you know what they say, no media is ever bad media and I’m sure most internet sites such as Peogles love to capitalize on these high searched keywords. Who wouldn’t? They bring it traffic and perverted guys. Sorry dudes. This is a PG-13 site. Keep moving.
Can You Survive for 24 Hours Without Computers?
This is a global experiment to find out how many people can go without a computer for one whole day. March 24, 2007 will be considered ‘Shutdown Day’, where so far 55,127 people voted that they can go through a day without computers. I know most bloggers out there hate the idea of not having computer access for even one minute as it will affect their stats. Haha!

Visit the ‘Shutdown Day’ site and challenge yourself. As for me, I’ll admit it I can probably go a full day turning my computer off, however I do have my Palm Treo as a back up. Does that count as a computer?

Mobile Phones are new Frontier in Advertising
LONDON: ON ADVERTISING
Eric Pfanner
Old media got left behind in the race to go online, in part because the prospects for advertising, traditionally the major revenue generator for newspapers, magazines and television, seemed unclear on the Internet. Then online advertising took off, and old media are still playing catch-up.
Now, with the next iteration of the Internet, the mobile Web, spreading around the world, publishers and other content providers are trying to keep up, lest they get in late on another advertising bonanza.
Last week in London, the Online Publishers Association released a study showing that use of the mobile Internet is on the rise, along with acceptance of mobile advertising.
The survey, conducted by TNS Media and Entertainment in the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Italy and Spain, found that 76 percent of cellphone owners in those countries now have access to the Web from mobile devices. The researchers, who polled about 1,000 people in each country, found that more than a third of those with mobile Web access used such services. The Web-using population ranged from 34 percent in France to 54 percent in Britain.
Studies commissioned by trade organizations are sometimes just disguised marketing exercises, and indeed the publishers’ group’s numbers seem surprisingly high, compared with other recent surveys of Web access by mobile phone users. According to M:Metrics, a research firm based in Seattle, 14 percent of British cellphone users accessed the Web for news and information in the fourth quarter. In Germany, a mere 3.2 percent did so, according to the firm.
Still, even if the lower estimates are right, mobile marketing could be a big thing, simply because the numbers are enormous. Some oft-repeated measures: Around one billion mobile phones will be sold around the world this year. Globally, there are more cellphones than PCs.
“I always hear about the cellphone as being the ‘third screen,’ but I think about it as the first one,” said Bob Greenberg, chief executive of R/GA, an agency based in New York that specializes in digital advertising, speaking at a conference sponsored by the publishers’ association. “It’s with me all the time.”
